Uninstall Avira unwanted programs: Phantom VPN, Game Booster, System Speedup and Optimizer Host.

 Avira is a nice antivirus but last years its bundle comes with "helper" programs that most people hate:

  • Avira Phantom VPN, 
  • Avira Game Booster, 
  • Avira System Speedup, 
  • Avira Optimizer Host
  • Avira Security (not the antivirus software)
  • etc

Avira knows users want to remove them, to stop them, to disable them. But Avira tries its best to keep them there in many ways:

  • "helpful" programs have never asked the customer whether to be installed or not
  • no options in GUI to disable them
  • no options in GUI to uninstall them
  • no options from Windows standard uninstall components functionality ("Add or remove programs" -> Rightclick -> Modify)

The solution

So there is a way to gently remove them:
  1. Navigate to Avira folder. E.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira
  2. Go to each of "helper" programs folders and start uninstaller. It could have different names:
    1. uninstall.exe
    2. uninst000.exe
    3. etc
  3. Enjoy :)

    I guess I am the only one who came here to share my very own experience. Guess what!? I am using my laptop for almost the past 2 years, but I had no idea of solving some basic issues.
